APPLICATIONS:
This Model OCL520 is designed to meet the special requirements of users in turning/threading pipes used in the petroleum, geological, mining and chemical industries, and in agricultural irrigation and drainage. This oil country lathe is especially efficient in threading casings for oilfield drilling industry. Its performance on threading meets the API 5CT, API 5B specifications. It is designed to thread casings with OD in the range of 13-3/8" - 20" and in grades of K55, L80, N80 and P110 steels.
However, it may serve as a conventional engine lathe to cut various Metric, Inch, Whitworth or Module threads, Diametrical threads on shafts and disks.
FEATURES:
1. The machine is able to cut outer and inner threads on straight and taper pipes with its diameter up to 520mm so that large casings with 20" diameter can be turned and threaded;
2. The machine is equipped with an extended length taper attachment which can travel up to 1000mm and be set at a taper maximum as +/-1: 4. It is specially used for cutting tapered threads on the pipes;
3. The machine is able to cut both Metric and Whitworth threads without the need of changing the translating gears;
4. The dropping worm in the apron can protect the mechanisms of the lathe automatically;
5. The guide way is hardened through high-frequency quenching and precision ground and PTEF coated to maintain the high accuracy in the long term operations;
6. This oil country lathe is competent to take high loads of workpieces and heavy cutting;
7. The floor center rest can be moved freely as required by the user. The center rest is provided with an adjustable clamp unit for setting up long pipes, greatly reducing labor;
8. The heavy duty hollow spindle is fitted with double 4-jaw chucks to hold long workpieces.
COMPONENTS:
1. Major castings on these oil country lathes including the machine base, the headstock frame, the carriage, the cross slide, the tool post and the gearbox frame etc. are made of high-strength, high-density and close-grained HT-250 grey cast iron through the resin sand casting process. All these castings have been processed with three steps of aging treatments, including the natural aging process lasting for more than 6 months. Thus they retain on the machine stable accuracy, high rigidity, high strength and high distortion-resistance in the long time operation of this oil country lathe. With the advantages of these optimumly designed and fine processed major structural casting parts, this oil country lathe can take heavy cutting and the high performance accuracy for a long time;
2. Bed ways have been hardened supersonic-frequency quenching and precision ground on a high-precision guideway grinding machine. They retain high accuracy for a long time. PTFE friction-resistant soft belts are coated on the guideways on the carriage and the cross slide to improve the accuracy of guideways and prolong the machine's service life;
3. Spindle have been optimumly designed, proper heat treated and fine machined. It has even metallurgical structure, high rigidity and high strength and can support heavy cutting with distortion. Its supporting bearings are from the famous bearing plants in China;
4. An one-way overrunning clutch is mounted on the feed rod and at the left side of the apron to prevent the feeding motion and the rapid traverse to intervene with each other. A spiral type face clutch is mounted on the worm shaft. During the normal operation, the feed rod drives the worm shaft via the face clutch. When the feeding system is overloaded, the face clutch slips and thus the apron stops and the machine is protected from being damaged by the overload. The feed rod and the lead screw are interlocked with each other;
5. A taper ruler is fitted on this oil country lathe to guide the cutting of tapered threads. The taper of this taper ruler is adjusted with a handwheel fitted on this ruler.
